Personalized Treatment

Chiropractic care is like building a house, certain things have to happen in a particular order for everything to stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular corrective and restorative care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. It’s important to know that our care is catered personally to you! At Tarpon Spine & Joint we offer chiropractic treatments through restorative care. There are 3 phases of chiropractic care.

The 3 Phases of Chiropractic Care

Phase 1: Relief Care

If you are in pain when you come into our office, the first objective is to help you feel better. This is is more than pain management; this is relief care. We will try to provide you with relief from your major symptoms as quickly as possible. Depending on the severity of your problem, it is typical to need care several times per week for 1-12 weeks.

Most people are under the assumption that if they don’t feel any pain, there is nothing wrong with them—they are healthy. Unfortunately, pain is a very poor indicator of health. In fact, pain and other symptoms frequently only appear after a disease or other condition has become advanced.

Phase 2: Corrective/Restorative Care

During the Corrective Care or Restorative Care phase, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, thereby helping prevent injury. It is typical to need care 4-8 times per month for 6-24 months, depending on your overall health and the severity of your problem.

Usually, the elimination of symptoms is the easiest part of a person’s care. If all that we did at this office was to reduce the pain and stop there, then chances are that the condition would eventually recur. In order to prevent a rapid recurrence of symptoms, it is necessary to continue receiving care even though your symptoms are gone. This is what we call: Corrective Care.

The pattern of your spinal alignment has developed from a lifetime of trauma: slips, childhood falls, poor posture, bad sleep habits, stress, work and auto injuries. Research has shown that at the beginning of Corrective Care, within a day or two, the spine will return to its abnormal position unless another adjustment is performed with this period of time. Therefore, it is imperative that the adjustment schedule be followed in order to get well. Each Adjustment builds on the one before, and it takes multiple adjustments in order to retrain tissues.

Together with your home care, stretches, diet and exercises, we can change the position of the spine and return it to its optimal alignment. This phase can take from weeks to months in order to achieve lasting results.

Phase 3: Wellness Care

Once your body has fully healed, it is important to come in for periodic adjustments to avoid problems in the future. Usually, this only requires a quick visit to the chiropractor 1-4 times per month, based on your lifestyle and goals.

It is unfortunate that it often takes a crisis to alert us that something is wrong with our body. The wellness care approach does not require a medical emergency. Using our wellness approach in chiropractic care is the most successful, least expensive, and safest form of preventative health care.

We will teach you how to start the wellness approach so you can live and create a healthier you.
